Y’all I’m spilling the beans on some of the biggest bloggers most kept secrets.
When I was first starting out in the blogging world I had a community that consisted of me, myself, and I. I had no one and no one on my side giving me any sort of direction. One of the biggest struggles I remembered having was when I would reach out to seasoned bloggers and even semi seasoned bloggers asking for any sort of advice, a point in the right direction, or a simple question. In return, I got ignored or lead myself right into a trap for, “you can join my blogger workshop for $55”. Needless to say it was a long road of trial and error figuring out what worked, all the how to’s, and yet here I am still trying to figuring a few things out but along the way I found out through the grapevine the many genius and rather scandalous hacks and tricks the head honcho bloggers practice and I am going to share a few of my favorite here with you.
Let’s dive right in to this
We see them in practically every bloggers Instagram photos. I’ve heard stories of bloggers moving into custom homes built specifically for their blog and some that have gone through major renovations to achieve that social media home….white everything and marble everywhere. Don’t get me wrong I am slightly tempted to do the same. The thing is white interior is more aesthetically pleasing than a darker tone like cherry wood and marble is a must apparently if you are an influencer on social media.
HACK: You don’t need to call a contractor and have them come out tomorrow to install marble for that perfect chic lay flat, just buy this magic
Lay flat backgrounds
“WTF are you doing with all this crap on the floor?” That’s the reality behind the scenes of a lay flat
TIP: Use things around the house to create different backgrounds. (Floor, bedding, pillow, shower curtain (done that once or twice) , clothing (done it)
HACK: White foam poster boards are the best and will be your BFF. They are the perfect white background and you can put that magic marble I told you about on the opposite side. Scrapbook paper is another great background. You can get anything from solids, cute prints, or even glitter scrapbook paper.
A Closet Full Of Clothes
YEP! and here is the deal, it’s hard for fashion enthusiasts to get rid of clothing because the thought, “well I could pair this with that one day and you never know when this color will trend again” runs ramped during a quarterly “Keep, Sell, Donate, Toss” cull. They probably have more clothes than they know what to do with and might have a mound of laundry the size of Mount Everest that they cover with a blanket and ignore for weeks……totally not me 🙂 Its ridiculous and a little dramatic but thats just the life of a fashion blogger. A lot of the time bloggers are gifted clothing in sponsorships.
BIGGEST SECRET #15 : Big bloggers use the method of “renting” (loaned clothing from designer brands for X amount of time in exchange for shout outs and tags ) and the “Buy and Return” Method (its pretty self explanatory but in case you don’t fully understand its a common method in the fashion industry for purchasing, wearing, photographing, and returning clothing) Yea, I see with you jaw dropped. It’s true though.
Perfectly Perfecting PERFECT Candids
Not candid at all. They are more than likely strategically thought out staged, “Hey, take my pic of me doing this” and “Oh no try again that one wasn’t good” photos ever. How do I know this because I do it and I have no reason to lie to you.
HACK: You can create a fake candids too. Try to be relatable and somewhat realistic or hire a photographer to do their magic so you don’t have to take a million photos and feel awkward
Clean, Organized, and Decorated Home
Some just might have it decorated and have all their shit together while the rest of us watch our children/or fur babies utterly destroy the blood, sweat, and tears put into cleaning and beautifying the wonderful place we call home in a matter of seconds or its staged beyond your wildest imagination. OR its a model home see more in hacks.
TIP: Only clean the part you want to photograph. Clean it until it sparkles, enjoy it for a while, then look over at the remaining 90% of your home you still need to clean or don’t just ignore it and have a glass of wine. YOLO!!!!
HACK: Clean the section you want to photograph. Shove the mess out of the frame. Take decorations from other areas of your home to make you appear to be 70% equivalent to Joanna Gains without having to go shopping for new decor. Head over to a new neighborhood model home and ask the manager if you can use the home for photography purposes and staging. Chances are they won’t mind at all.
