I am so excited for this post ladies!!! I get so many emails and messages asking me about tulle skirts what better way to share my thoughts on them than on Tutu Tuesday!!!
I am going to share with you what I love and don’t love about them, the ways I wear them dressy and casual, and a few great shops to pick up a few gorgeous skirts of your own!
When I first saw someone wearing a tulle skirt it was in the cutest Mommy and Me photo-shoot. Which wearing them for a photo session seemed completely normal. I was all about the tulle with my little girly. I had a tulle skirt made for her for every holiday and in every color. So Naturally when I saw a grown woman wearing one it caught me off guard but it was so sweet because she was matching her little girl.
I noticed a rise in this tulle skirt trend and wanted to buy a few for my photography business and themed shoots I had planned with my little girl for mothers day. Here is the thing…I fell in love with the tulle skirts just like the rest of the girly girl world BUT I was also a professional and a busy mom. I didn’t have time for dressing up and running around in a big fluffy skirt while trying to nurse a newborn and chase down a 2 year old. So My skirts remained in the closet as photography props for a few months. I felt bad about my expensive purchases wasting away in the closet and did some research on the greatest place for inspiration….Pinterest! I looked up tulle skirt outfit ideas and found just a few to work with but enough to give me a creative idea on how to incorporate this look into my wardrobe.
I think the biggest set back we have with these skirts are they just seem so immature and childish. Yes I said it! I do believe they are…sorry not sorry. But I STILL wear them! You just have to let go of the idea that SOMEONE ELSE is going to look at you and think you are ridiculous because lets face it everyone has their own opinion and might not like this look but if you love them then walk out the door and work it! I do think there IS a TIME and a PLACE for this specific type of skirt. I certainly would not recommend wearing one to an interview (unless you are applying for a job as a princess at a 4 year olds birthday party lol.) or to your corporate world job,…..you know all the places you WANT to be taken seriously. So while these skirts are adorably cute thats just it they are cute and your presence will come off as such….darling, cute, sweet, adorable. Just keep that in mind tulle skirts are not for everyone but its worth a shot if you want to try it out!!! go for it no one is stopping you except yourself. You will know the moment you slip into it if it is for you or not.
I am a not one to wear them every.single.day.of.my.life. I have come across a few gorgeous ladies that do and you know ( no judging what so ever ) its great- just not MY style. I honestly think its a personality trait as well as your style and the vibe you subconsciously strive to create. I will show you how I wear my skirts from a casual look to a dressy outfit that you might wear to a mixer or girls night out.
I feel most casual and comfortable doing everyday chores/mom duties/ errands in this look. A simple tank top and NOT as fluffy tulle skirt. Remember there are different styles of skirts you can get. Everything from mini, long, fluffy, flat, or all variations of the above.
This look is an every now and than/once a week look for me. I feel great…..dressed up but comfortable. Most of all I don’t feel like everyone is starring at me like WTF you are at the commissary girlfriend not a fashion show, go home!!! hahaha Just keep in mind that you cannot please everyone and not everyone is meant for you! Meaning effff the haters you are a kickass-I got myself AND my family dressed this moning-AND my hair is probably washed (and yours isn’t)-I look amazing and you are just jelly!!! DONE!!
Where To Wear: Brunch, Lunch, Shopping, Casual Party
When To Wear: Everyday
This look gives me comfort and a little bit of dressy all in one! I would choose this look for my tutu Tuesday over any other look. I love the comfort of wearing a fashion tee yet I feel a little more put together with a fuller tulle skirt! You could wear this look with heels or with flats/cute flat lace up shoes 🙂 Adding a statement necklace will give your look a more dressy appeal.
Where To Wear: Baby Shower, Bridal Shower, Casual Event, Casual Dinner
When To Wear: Special Occasions/Casual Daytime
Always have fun!
Get dressy with heels, accessories, and cute tops that you can tuck into your tutu. Tucking a dressy top like the ones below (examples for a few seasons) will give you an idea as to how you can style this dressy. Get creative. Sometimes a great way to add fluff and character to your tulle look is to pair it with another dress! Sounds crazy but lets say you love the top of a dress and just know it would look amaze with your tulle skirt. Slip the skirt over the dress and whaaaa-la! just make sure the dress underneath does not show at the bottom of your skirt.
