I hope you had the most wonderful Christmas and got to spend it with the ones you love!!!!
Its crazy to think in just a few short days 2016 will be behind us and the chance for another fresh start in 2017. I always get sad after Christmas. I just love the build up of the holiday season and getting together with family. When its over all the hustle and bustle and overtime spent with family slows down and then stops leaving me with John Lennon stuck in my head singing “So this is Christmas” over and over lol. I have no other choice but to sit back and let the background music play while I think of all that has happened this year, that I have overcome, the opportunities, memories. The great thing about the New Year is you have the opportunity to set yourself up for a successful year with a great mind set and taking all that has happened good and bad from the previous year and using it to your advantage to better yourself and your surroundings.
Resolutions are completely overrated. Who even sticks to them?!?! I for one can tell you that I have NEVER stuck to my New Year Resolutions, EVER! I honestly think its because we get this idea in our heads that we are going to to do better for ourselves and the only way to do that is to create these crazy lists of resolutions to follow through with. For instance we take all the things we want to make better or change and try to do it all at once, which is crap.
I have a few ideas that I am going to incorporate into the New Year that I feel will help shape the outcome of my year. I am not going to set a ton of resolutions for myself but maybe one set goal. I haven’t decided just yet in the midst of writing this post if I want it to be a public goal or private but I’ll let you know. Either way its just going to be ONE.
Here are some ideas/tips to making the most of the new year….lets go!
Organization- This is going to be the number one thing to keep me on the right track this year and set me up for a great year. I have always used a planner but completely slacked off in the past months because of our move. There was absolutely no point and planning anything especially when I had no idea what to plan for. Now that we are settled in I think its certainly time to get back into the planning groove.
Get a cute planner!! Having a pretty agenda book to write my thoughts and to-do’s in helps me stay on top of things. Keeping your daily life written down will help you to accomplish your tasks for the day and more than likely keep you from getting sidetracked and further behind. One of my fav organization and stress relieving tips is to sit down before bed and write down all that is on my mind. Pour out on paper all that I want to get done for the day/week, any ideas, appointments, kid related things to do. Then I circle the priorities and narrow down the tasks that can be taking care of the following day. I try not to cram everything into one day because that just sets me up for a complete and total meltdown mid day.
Water- What the heck does water have to do with the new year?? Well let me tell you! Water can help you with sleep, staying focused, help with your metabolism, energy and so much more! Who doesn’t need good health to be at the top of their list!!!!! The easiest way to incorporate a healthy lifestyle without going overboard and burning yourself out is drinking more water.
I’m sticking to my “buy it pretty” theory again with this one. Pick out a pretty water bottle that will keep you interested in drinking water. I find that a cute water bottle vs. a cup helps me to want to keep my water handy ad drink more. Starting with water can lead to other healthy choices.
This is my current water cutie! Its technically a thermos but I just drink from it like a water bottle!! Its too cute
Get Dressed- Yep! Get your bum up, shower, fix your hair and make up and put on something you like. I need to practice this a little more myself. Since being pregnant its easy for me to use that as an excuse to not get out of my pjs or wash/brush my hair like a should. Being a mom is hard. Being a working mom is hard. Being a stay at home working mom is effing hard too! The goal here is encouraging ourselves to at least look good for ourselves. Feeling good about the way you look will turn your day around and leave you with so many positive feelings. Im not saying get all dolled up every single day. I’m simply saying plan your outfit the night before, set your alarm and wake up relatively early, eat a yummy breakfast, shower (if you need to or spray in that dry shampoo), fix your hair (not just a bun everyday) and complete it with a little make up (if you are feeling extra peppy go all out with your make up look) . I feel like I can take on the world or at least my to do list when I walk out with an outfit on that I like and a little make up rather than head full of dreadlocks hidden in a messy bun, a tired face, and clothes I loathe because I was too lazy to plan an outfit.
Make Time- Give yourself some grace. You are only human and your deserve to cut yourself some slack. You can’t do everything, so don’t try. Give yourself time to rest and be still. One thing that is sure to keep you from accomplishing your goal is overworking yourself until you break. Remember always that you are enough and you are doing the best you can. When things start to overwhelm you take that as your red flag that you need to make time for you to rest and be still.
Now I’ve reached the end of this post and I still don’t think I have my ONE goal set just yet but I am thinking about it. I am for sure focusing on staying optimistic here in Bahrain and looking forward to having this baby and going home to visit family! Career wise I do have big dreams and exciting new opportunities for The Chic Blonde that I just can’t wait to share with you and hope to get settled in enough to take on some photography sessions here in BH! I have a feeling this is going to be a great year and I am glad to have YOU here with me and your support.
For fun I wanted to share a little challenge my husband and I are starting Jan 1st – Jan 31st …. we are going to attempt to maintain a vegetarian diet for the month. I will share all the details and recipes along the way here on the blog and on snap @jessicabkr so be sure to follow along.
