I don’t know about you but for some reason at night my mind likes to run wild thinking about all the stuff I want to do, have to do, and wish I could do and then it likes to wander off into worrier land and ackkk I can’t get to sleep. Before I know if its 1 or 2 am and I have been tossing and turning in bed for almost 3 hours. sleep is a beautiful thing…when you can get it. Since becoming a mom I haven’t slept the way I slept before I had children. Oh that sleep is like fall out drooling on your pillow, sleeping on your belly, sleep. Sounds glorious right?
Since using essential oils I have played around with a lot of different oils that aid in sleep. The ones that work best for me are Lavender and Cedarwood.
I got my kit and fell in love with lavenders ability to relax and calm and send my children into a dreamy sleep without a one hour fight before. I loved the way it can instantly bring a sense of tranquility when diffused or used topically. I put lavender, witch hazel, and distilled water into a stainless steel spray bottle. I spray it on my pillows, sheets, and around the bedroom before climbing into bed. I diffuse Lavender 30 min before bedtime. It gets everyone feeling relaxed and a little drowsy. I rub a drop on my chest before I nurse my little one so he can inhale the aroma and fall into a luscious sleep so I can finally go take a shower or even pee in peace. I rub a little on the back of my sweet girlies neck and put a little Peace and Calming on her feet and tuck her into bed for the night.
Lavender wasn’t cutting it for me….I needed something more to get my zzzzz’s . I heard that Cedarwood was like a little bottle of sleep magic. I have to get my hands on that stuff. I did get a warning from a few oily friends before I got my Cedarwood. Now I’ll ket you know too….so if you haven’t smelled it before you might not be used to its hmmmm oddly familiar aroma. what is that smell? It smells like something….cat pee? Yes it smelled like cat pee to me at first. I had to continue to use it in order to have the aroma grow on me and learn to love the smell of Cedarwood. Don’t let my experience deter you from trying the oil for yourself. You might find that it smells completely normal and not cat pee-ish at all. I love the smell now and friends, it knocks me out. I cannot use it during the day because I will pass out drooling on the couch. Cedarwood is my goto sleep oil. I diffuse Lavender and Cedarwood and I rub Cedarwood on the bottoms of my feet before bed.
